LAND GIFTS AND OTHER DONATIONS

There are many ways to work with the Hamilton Wenham Open Land Trust. We can help you design a conservation plan for your land that works best for you, and we can recommend attorneys, appraisers, accountants, and other professionals to assist you in implementing your plan. Please take a minute to read about the different ways we can work together to preserve open land in our communities.

Donations of Land
We gratefully accept donations of land. Donating your land to the Land Trust is a way to preserve it and share it with future generations, while receiving substantial income and estate tax benefits for your gift.

Donations of Funds
We welcome tax deductible donations of funds to help the Land Trust purchase land and to fund the stewardship of our reservations. We can also accept bequests and gifts of securities.

Conservation Restriction (CR)
We can help you put a conservation restriction on your land. A conservation restriction is a legal agreement between a land owner and the Land Trust that limits the development that can take place on the land. A conservation restriction can result in substantial income tax deductions and reduce estate taxes provided applicable IRS rules and regulations are strictly complied with.

Bargain Sale
It may be possible to sell your land to the Land Trust
at less than its fair market value. This preserves the land
and provides tax benefits for the land owner.

A land ethic, then, reflects the existence
of an ecological conscience, and this in turn
reflects a conviction of individual responsibility
for the health of the land. Health is the capacity
of the land for self-renewal. Conservation
is our effort to understand and preserve
this capacity.
